Riverside School
A real pioneer in education, Riverside School is located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The innovative school was established in 2001 by Kiran Bir Sethi, an Ashoka Fellowship-awarded social entrepreneur that favours the language of design to enable students to explore the world through creativity, play and exploration. Learning at Riverside is driven by design thinking, empathy and ethics and is seen as ‘‘the only way to democratise opportunities and understand freedom, equity, love and compassion – and how to action those ideas. At Riverside, the purpose of education is for every learner to find a purpose, identify their passion, and to be able to action it for the benefit of self and others.’’
The school follows a unique philosophy of ‘Doing Good AND Doing Well’ and is also a research center for school education, perhaps best known for the ‘I CAN MINDSET’ programme. ‘‘The I CAN MINDSET is a set of beliefs, skills and attitudes that are fostered and nurtured over time to shape young global citizen leaders who are: AWARE of the world around them, ENABLED with skills to make change and
EMPOWERED to design a more desired, sustainable future for the greater good.’’
The Riverside School uses the design thinking framework to design processes and practices that are timetabled to build a culture of empowerment. These processes have been globally recognized and successfully implemented in schools across the world.
