International School of Düsseldorf

At the International School of Düsseldorf, Pathfinder spaces have been an invaluable addition to the learning community. The first Pathfinder space opened in 2017 and had an immediate and positive impact on ISD’s students' approaches to learning, developing skills and competencies like social, communication, self-management and research skills.

Students learn in a variety of ways, and research supports the idea that flexible learning spaces, such as Pathfinder, allow for both collaborative, independent, student- and teacher-directed learning.

Thanks to the flexible Pathfinder space, teachers at ISD can now incorporate more dynamic, multi-model teaching and learning methods into curriculum units, and have been able to develop interdisciplinary courses, with collaborative teaching models, which better support a student-centred, hands-on education.

As a school, ISD has built an improved understanding of the connection between dynamic learning environments and the 21st-century learning processes: collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
