Kunskapsskolan
The first Swedish Kunskapsskolan or ‘The Knowledge Schools’ opened its doors in greater Stockholm and Norrköping in 2000. The school was founded on the belief that everyone is different and learns at a different pace and rate.
In response to the latest research and frustrating experience, that traditional classroom teaching in larger groups fails the needs of the majority of students, the KED programme, Kunskapsskolan education programme, was developed. Every part of learning is defined, from teachers’ roles to IT and architecture, to facilitate personalized learning.
Learning should not be a random outcome but an active process guided by personalized learning goals and schedules. Kunskapsskolan schools are located in unique buildings with open, flowing spaces.
Constantly adapted and developed by teachers and students, this unique methodology has been successfully rolled out across Sweden and is used in 33 national Secondary Schools and in six countries spanning three continents.
